San Diego is the second largest city in California, with over 70 miles of coastline, and an average temperature of 72 degrees year round. No wonder why it is one of the most desirable places in the world to live. San Diego sits just north of the Mexican border, and spans over 4,200 square miles, with desert, mountains, vibrant downtowns and of course, beaches. The options for things to do is endless. Whether you feel like taking a hike, scuba diving a shipwreck, learning to surf, or spending the day at the San Diego Zoo, San Diego has something for everyone.
San Diego is made up of several neighborhoods. Downtown has a very urban vibe, with tons of great restaurants, bars, shops, and sites such as Old Town, the Embarcadero, Gaslamp District, Seaport Village, Petco Park (home of the Padres), Horton Plaza, and Balboa Park, the largest urban park in the US.
Just across the bridge from San Diego is Coronado, where you will find wide white sandy beaches, and a quaint town seeming with history. East of San Diego you can explore the Vegas style casinos, Anza Borrego State Park (the largest state park in California), Palomar Mountain, and the charming town of Julian, known for their apple pies.
To the north – inland and coastal, is known as North County San Diego. This is where beach towns dot the coast, each with a very laid back, surf vibe. Article From San Diego Visitors Guide
When traveling on a beach vacation with tiny ones there are several tips that will make your beachfront vacation go a bit smoother. Some babies will sleep well at the beach and others have a hard time being away from what they know as home. Make sure you bring your baby’s own bedding. They do better when they are touching and smelling the sheets and blankets from their own crib. Make sure you bring a baby monitor. If you are out on your private beach and your baby is 20 feet away in the vacation rental, you might not hear them cry with the waves crashing so close. Many beach vacation rentals offer to supply pack n plays. Although this seems like a helpful item, it is just impossible to know if the previous baby had an illness or accident while using the pack n play. Rather than risking your little one to unwanted germs, its much safer to rent a sterilized crib or pack n play from one of the local baby rental companies. Babies are also at risk for sunburns. There are great onesies available online that are UV protected. It eliminates the need for so much suncream. Babies love the small inflatable wading pools. You can buy one at home, usually for less than $6. Since it comes deflated in a small package,it is easy to tuck in your luggage. Dont worry about having to bring it home. There will always be a child on the beach very happy to take it over once your beach vacation comes to an end. Taking a pack n play out on the beach is an easy way to keep your little one with you without having them be covered in sand head to toe. We look forward to helping you and your baby have a great beach vacation at one of our rentals! http://www.oceansidebeachrental.com

While enjoying your Oceanside Beachfront Vacation Rental, set aside one day on the beach to be a “Pirate Day”. Yes, everyone including adults can take part. Bring “bits and bobs” from home: pirate flags, eye patches, scarves, vests, belts, shirts and hats that would be fitting of a grand pirate or wench. Bury chocolate gold coins and make a treasure map, go on a scavenger hunt. Have a sandcastle building contest and walk the plank. Read fun pirate stories by the bon fire.
Here are a few fun and simple ideas on how to have a great time on your next beachfront vacation.
- Have a bonfire on the beach and roast marshmallows.
- Prepare a fun dinner at sunset by the beach bonfire where everyone has to dress up like a pirate, including all adults. Bring bits and bobs of items from home in red, black and white to fashion pirate garb.
- Follow a set of foot prints in the sand as long as you can.
- Have a sandcastle building contest.
- Bury treasure in the sand and make a treasure map for kids to follow. You can bury the treasure with “x marks the spot” with beach stones.
- Paint beach rocks.
- Feed seagulls.
- Go on a scavenger hunt for different kinds of shells and different colored beach rocks.
- Give each person a day where they have to decide the menu and the activity or game of the day.
- Rent beach cruisers, decorate them and ride to the harbor for an ice cream treat.
- Fish from the pier. Better yet fish from your own beach backyard.
- Put up a tent on your private beach.
- Take a flashlight out on the beach at night and look for treasures.
- Spend an entire day without using the word “No”- its harder than you think!
- Let the kids create one dinner meal. If they decide to have pizza with m and m’s and candy for a topping, thats great. You will survive and they will remember that dinner for the rest of their lives.
- Put away the cell phones and talk.
- At bonfire each day, have everyone bring a trinket or souvenir from what they did that day. Go around the fire ring and share with everyone what they did. It gets everyone talking and laughing.
- Try and count the grains of sand in just one teaspoon of sand.
All of us at http://www.Oceansidebeachrental.com hope you have a wonderful beachfront vacation and take home a sand bucket filled with great memories! Logan and Kim
